Our Story

I would like to take a minute to say hello and introduce myself!

Hello, my name is Phill Lang.  I am the owner and craftsman of Lang’s Leather works.  I am located in Waxhaw, North Carolina.  I have been working with leather for the past 6+ years.  All my leather work is done out of my home workshop.

From an early age I was exposed to talented craftsmen, who helped form and spark my creativity.   I was involved in woodworking and woodworking clubs when I was young.   In high school I was actively involved in my school’s metal shop where we repaired and created all types of metal work.  From there I gained experience being a saw filer for a small saw shop.  I also grew up around my grandmother’s antique business where I learned many aspects of being self-employed and having an eye for treasures and good workmanship.  From a small saw shop to my grandmother’s antique business, I always wanted to have my own business.

My journey of leather work started with a friend who I planned on making a leather vest with, but it ended up that I purchased the wrong type of leather.  This then led to my oldest son asking if he could make something out of the leather I had purchased.  I also made some small leather sewing kits for my youngest son’s school charity event. I found that leather work was right up my alley.  I fell in love with the creativeness, craftsmanship, and artistic freedom.  I am constantly learning new skills and working with amazing tools.  I have worked with many leather craftsmen and have taken many classes with some of the most talented leather craftsmen and saddle makers in America.

Lang’s Leather Works was developed out of an idea to create high quality handmade leather products. I use some of the finest leather raised and processed in the United States.  I want my customers to know they have something they can use every day and know it will last for years to come.  I am constantly striving to make new products as I incorporate old-world technics with a touch of modern ingenuity.

My products can be found at local pop-up markets and my website www.langsleatherworks.com.   I also have a small booth in downtown Waxhaw at The Mule Barn Mercantile.

I look forward to making something special for you!

Phill
